Fix launch problems

Work through this checklist in order. Most launch problems are one of the first four.

1. Is the registration enabled?

Brightspace creates a dynamic registration switched off. In Admin Tools > Manage Extensibility > LTI Advantage, open the Rowseta registration and check it is Enabled.

2. Is User ID turned on?

If the page says Brightspace access unavailable and asks to enable User ID, turn on User ID in the deployment’s Security Settings. See The User ID security setting.

3. Is the course in the deployment’s org units?

Open the Rowseta deployment and check that the course, or an org unit above it (such as your whole organization), is in scope. If the list is empty, add your org root.

Section titled “4. Are the widget link’s custom parameters exact?”

A widget link needs rowseta_mode = widget and rowseta_placement_id = the widget’s ID, copied from Publish to LMS. Symptoms of a mistake:

  • The full Rowseta app opens inside the course homepage, or a page says “This link opens the full Rowseta app, which cannot show inside a Brightspace page.” A parameter name is misspelled, so Brightspace launched the full app. Fix the custom parameters.
  • You don’t have access to this. The placement ID is missing or wrong. Copy it again from Publish to LMS.

5. Is the person’s role allowed?

  • Rowseta is for staff. Students can view their own numbers only in an insight widget. See the fixed launch rules.
  • Your Brightspace role does not give you access to Rowseta. Ask an Organization administrator to give you a role in People, then launch again. See How Brightspace roles map to Rowseta and change a launch member’s role.
  • This widget is not available to students. Switch on student viewing in the widget editor if the widget should show their own numbers.

If you don’t see this menu or button, your role doesn’t include it. Ask someone who can edit roles (Owners and Admins by default).

6. Is the person suspended?

Your Rowseta membership is suspended. Someone with permission to manage People suspended this person. Ask for help through Settings > People. Owner changes follow the fixed Owner protections.

7. Is the Organization within its Evaluation course limit?

This Organization is using all of its Evaluation course slots. Release a course you no longer use. See Release a course.

8. Was the launch from inside a course?

Section titled “8. Was the launch from inside a course?”

This launch did not include a usable course. Open Rowseta from a link inside a course, not from a place outside courses.
