Your first 30 minutes
This page is a checklist. Each step links to the full instructions. Most of the 30 minutes is Brightspace setup; the first sync then runs on its own and can take from a few minutes to a few hours depending on how much data your institution has.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need:
- A work email address (personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook are not accepted).
- A Brightspace administrator account that can open Admin Tools > Manage Extensibility.
- About 10 minutes of Brightspace admin time now, and a few more for the LTI registration later.
Checklist
Section titled “Checklist”- Create your Organization (5 minutes). Choose your Rowseta address and your data region. The region cannot be changed later. Create your Organization
- Connect Brightspace for data (10 minutes). Create a service user and an OAuth 2.0 app in Brightspace, then paste the Brightspace URL and Client ID into Rowseta. Connect Brightspace
- Choose datasets (2 minutes). The recommended set covers the introductory reports and widgets; some templates need more datasets, see Choose datasets.
- Start the first sync (1 minute to start). You can leave the page while it runs. Run your first sync
- While the sync runs, register Rowseta for LTI launches (10 minutes). Use dynamic registration, then turn on User ID in the deployment’s Security Settings. Launches are refused without it. Register Rowseta for LTI launches
- When the sync finishes, publish a report (5 minutes). Start from the Course visits by course template: it works with insight widgets. Build your first report
- Create an insight widget and place it in one course (10 minutes). Create an insight widget and Put a widget in a Brightspace course
- Open the course homepage in Brightspace and check the numbers for the signed course. What insight widgets are
If you don’t see this menu or button, your role doesn’t include it. Ask someone who can edit roles (Owners and Admins by default).
