Brightspace launch messages

Most refused launches show a page titled Brightspace access unavailable with one sentence explaining why, followed by: Return to Brightspace and try again after the requested change is made. If you still need help, contact an Organization administrator. Find the sentence below.

Every refused launch is also recorded in Settings > Audit log as LTI launch denied.

Ask your LMS administrator to enable User ID in this tool deployment’s Security Settings in Brightspace, then launch again.

Cause: The Rowseta deployment in Brightspace does not share the User ID. Fix: An LMS administrator ticks User ID in the deployment’s Security Settings and saves; then launch again. See The User ID security setting.

This launch did not include a usable course. Open Rowseta from a Brightspace course, then try again.

Fix: Open Rowseta from a link inside a course.

Your Rowseta membership is suspended. Ask an Organization administrator to restore access.

Fix: Ask for help selecting Unsuspend person in Settings > People. Owner changes follow the fixed Owner protections.

If you don’t see this menu or button, your role doesn’t include it. Ask someone who can edit roles (Owners and Admins by default).

Rowseta is for staff. Students can view their own numbers only in an insight widget.

Fix: See the fixed launch rules and place a widget if appropriate.

Your Brightspace role does not give you access to Rowseta. Ask an Organization administrator to give you a role in People, then launch again.

Rowseta could not prepare your membership. Ask an Organization administrator for help.

Cause: Usually the LTI registration is not active in Rowseta, or it changed. Fix: Check Integrations > LTI placements and register again if needed. Contact support if it continues.

Rowseta could not resolve your analytics role. Ask an Organization administrator for help.

Fix: Open the person in Settings > People and assign a role.

This Organization has turned off analytics. Ask an Organization administrator to turn it on, then launch again.

Also: Rowseta could not check whether analytics is available.

Fix: Contact support; analytics must be turned back on for the Organization.

Rowseta could not start this course session. Ask an Organization administrator for help.

Fix: Launch again. If the LTI registration was just changed, wait for it to finish and try again.

Cause: This insert action is unavailable in a course launch. Fix: Create the link as an administrator in Manage Extensibility, or see Put a widget in a Brightspace course.

Full message: This link opens the full Rowseta app, which cannot show inside a Brightspace page. Ask your Brightspace administrator to set this link to open in a new window in Brightspace.

Cause: A link that opens the full app was placed inside a page or homepage. Fix: Set the link to open in a new window. If you meant to place a widget, add the custom parameters rowseta_mode = widget and rowseta_placement_id from Publish to LMS.

A plain page with only this text.

Cause: Rowseta could not validate the launch: the registration’s issuer, Client ID, deployment ID or keys do not match, or Brightspace did not send the person’s LTI subject. Fix: Check the registration in Brightspace and Rowseta match, or register again.

unknown LTI registration / missing client_id / registration not found

Cause: The Brightspace link points to a registration Rowseta does not have, for example after Disconnect or a new registration. Fix: Register again and update the links.

Cause: The launch took too long, was repeated from an old tab, or went to the wrong Rowseta address. Fix: Go back to Brightspace and open the link again.

Cause: The Rowseta address in the Brightspace link is wrong. Fix: Correct the address in the tool’s URLs, or register again.

Cause: The Organization is being deleted, or the registration is incomplete. Fix: Register again. Contact support if the Organization should not be deleted.

This Brightspace launch is missing its course scope

Fix: Open Rowseta again from inside a course.

This Brightspace launch is limited to Analytics

Cause: A launch member tried to open administration, billing or settings. Fix: Sign in to Rowseta directly with an administrator account, or ask an Owner to lift the launch limit.

Full message: This account has been suspended. Please contact your administrator for assistance.

Fix: Contact Rowseta support.
