Creating widgets

Fix: Publish a report whose results include OrgUnitId, for example the Course visits by
course template. Select Open Reports. See
Report templates.
Sync your data before creating your first insight widget.

An admin must create insight widgets.
Section titled “An admin must create insight widgets.”Cause: Your role does not include widget creation. Fix: Ask for help creating a widget or editing your role. See Roles and permissions.
If you don’t see this menu or button, your role doesn’t include it. Ask someone who can edit roles (Owners and Admins by default).
Your Organization has reached its active insight widget limit.
Section titled “Your Organization has reached its active insight widget limit.”Also: insight widget limit reached (N/N active). Upgrade for unlimited insight widgets, New insight widget unavailable.
Fix: Mark another widget inactive or delete it, or see Billing.

Failed to create insight widget
Section titled “Failed to create insight widget”Fix: Try again. Rowseta removes the half-created widget for you.
Editing widgets
Section titled “Editing widgets”Failed to save changes / Failed to save metric
Section titled “Failed to save changes / Failed to save metric”Also: Failed to add metric, Failed to delete metric, Failed to update metric, Failed to reorder metrics, Failed to update insight widget, Failed to delete insight widget.
Fix: Make the change again. If a reason appears under the metric, fix it first.
This report has no org unit column (like OrgUnitId or ‘Org Unit Id’).

Fix: Choose a report with an OrgUnitId column, or add one to the report.

Fix: Add UserId (and OrgUnitId) to the report, or choose Everyone in the launched

Fix: Open the metric and choose a column the report still returns.
This report reads …, which are empty inside a course, so its numbers can be zero in Brightspace.

Section titled “not shown to students / never shown inside a course / cannot be scoped to this course or person”Fix: For students, switch on Students also see their own numbers and set the metric to Each viewer’s own records. For “never shown inside a course”, change The whole Organization to a course or own-records reach. For “cannot be scoped”, add the missing column to the report.
This insight widget is inactive
Section titled “This insight widget is inactive”Fix: Select Mark active when you want courses to see it again.
Add a course ID above to preview the widget. / Course not found
Section titled “Add a course ID above to preview the widget. / Course not found”Fix: Type the name or ID of a synced course in Search for a preview course and select a matching result. If none appear, the panel says No courses match your search.
Could not load courses.

No course has opened this widget yet. / No courses match your search.
Section titled “No course has opened this widget yet. / No courses match your search.”Fix: Open the widget from a Brightspace course, or change the search.
Could not release the course. Try again.

Needs an admin / Unavailable / Create an insight widget with metrics first
Section titled “Needs an admin / Unavailable / Create an insight widget with metrics first”Cause: A setup checklist step needs a permission you do not have, or an earlier step first. Fix: Ask an administrator, or finish the earlier step.
Could not copy link / Could not copy name
Section titled “Could not copy link / Could not copy name”Cause: Your browser blocked the clipboard. Fix: Select the text and copy it by hand.
Enter each custom parameter exactly. A typo in a parameter name silently opens the full app.

In a Brightspace course
Section titled “In a Brightspace course”Starting metrics… / Computing metrics
Section titled “Starting metrics… / Computing metrics”Cause: Rowseta is calculating the numbers for this course. The first open after a sync can take longer. Fix: Wait; the numbers appear when ready.
Unable to load this widget.
Section titled “Unable to load this widget.”Fix: Reload the course page. If it happens again, tell your Rowseta administrator the course and the time.
You don’t have access to this.
Section titled “You don’t have access to this.”Cause: The widget link is missing rowseta_placement_id, the launch does not meet the
fixed launch rules, or the page was opened outside
Brightspace. Fix: Copy the custom parameters again from Publish to LMS, or open the widget
from the course homepage.
This Organization is using all of its Evaluation course slots.
Section titled “This Organization is using all of its Evaluation course slots.”Full message: To free one, someone who manages insight widgets in Rowseta can open this widget and release a course that no longer uses it.
Fix: Release a course.
This widget is not available to students.

Account is not active
Section titled “Account is not active”Cause: The Organization is locked or its payment failed. Fix: An administrator checks Billing.
Timeout / Error (on a metric)
Section titled “Timeout / Error (on a metric)”Fix: For Timeout, reload the page. For Error, ask an administrator to open the metric in the widget editor and run its source report.
Configure this insight widget
Section titled “Configure this insight widget”Full message: This insight widget needs course-specific settings before metrics can be calculated.
Cause: A parameter is set to Instructors must set this. Fix: Select Configure now from the signed course, enter the value and save. See the fixed Configure rule.
Required parameter “…” must be set. / Each flag comparison needs a value. / Save failed
Section titled “Required parameter “…” must be set. / Each flag comparison needs a value. / Save failed”Also: missing required parameter(s): …, metric “…” flag rule is locked, metric “…” flag comparison needs a value, unknown parameter “…”.
Fix: Fill in every required parameter, give each flag comparison a number, and save again. A locked alert cannot be changed in the course.
No course settings available.
Section titled “No course settings available.”Cause: Nothing in this widget is adjustable per course. Fix: Allow an adjustment in the widget editor. See Alerts and instructor controls.
Not authorized to edit this placement
Section titled “Not authorized to edit this placement”Cause: The launch does not satisfy the fixed Configure rule. Fix: Open the widget from its signed course and check the role’s current grants.
View details
Section titled “View details”Open this widget again from Brightspace
Section titled “Open this widget again from Brightspace”Full message: Your details view has ended. Go back to your Brightspace course homepage and select View details on the widget again.
Fix: Do exactly that.
